Craving Opals

The opal is this season's biggest jewelry trend. While the delicate, vibrant, and rare gemstone is moving it's way back into style, they have a long history in jewelry design.  Ancient Romans gifted opals to their wives, considering them to be the most treasured and powerful of the gemstones. Arabic legends say opals fall from the heavens in flashes of lightning. The ancient Greeks believed opals gave their owners the gift of prophecy and guarded them from disease. Europeans have long considered the gem a symbol of hope, purity, and truth. Today it is known to symbolize healing, love and uplifting of one's emotions.

Now mainly found in Australia, Ethiopia, and some parts of Mexico, every precious opal stone is naturally formed so the color is unique and different in every stone, with red, yellow, purple, pink, blue, green, and black shining through at different angles. The opal is a bit more fragile stone, so it is important the setting is solid and secure. We like to set the opals in a setting with substantial gold, to assure safety and protection for these beautiful gems.

Opals come in a variety of colors with our favorites being the blues and greens, opals also come in orange which is called the "fire opal" and pink. The black and more traditional white opals are also a beautiful option.

We have just introduced opals into the line with our new unique blue opal ring that can be worn solo or stacked with gold bands and/or diamond eternity rings. Our opal and diamond earrings are great to wear with the ring. Both the ring and earrings are encased by a thin row of micro-pave diamonds to highlight the opals.

Enjoy,

Sherri
